I'm delaying my enrollment a bit because of certain issues that came up.... so here's the deal: I enrolled to a university...I still haven't received my classes/classes still have not started...nothing's happened yet. And I was anxious to begin school b/c I would have to borrow loans b/c financial aid didn't fully cover the expenses. I had $17,000 / $24,000.. . So...I concluded that I would be better off taking my core classes at a university that would allow financial aid to fully cover...so that's what I'm going to do. But fall semester is beginning, and I'm late...so I would have to start in the Spring.. . MY QUESTION IS...Will I still be eligible to receive grants, hope scholarship, etc if I begin in the Spring and not in the Fall?! (as a freshman)

The answer to that question may vary depending on circumstances. Best case scenario, if the account was set up as POD (Payable on Death), it would then name a beneficiary, and that would superceed any will. I would imagine that in this case, you would just provide proof of death (death certificate) and that would be all you'd need.. . Second case - is there a will involved? If so, the banks generally can not follow the order of a will. The courts would do that. The executor named in the will would have to go to the courthouse and talk to the estates people, who would provide documentation naming the executor and instructing the bank on what to do with the funds.. . If there is no POD set up, and no Will, then as policies will vary from bank to bank, I would just suggest going to your local banker and just asking them what you need, as they will be the ones fulfilling the transaction. I work for a large bank and what we normally require would be the original or certified copy of the death certificate, and then a document from the estates dept from the clerk of superior court - which sounds more complicated that it really is. In this case, you would just go down to the courthouse, explain what happened, and they'd type of a paper instructing the bank to turn over the funds. Usually customers come back to me with something called "Letters of Testamentary." That will vary from state to state depending on state laws.
