Within a week or two of settling I start getting collection notices for the same school, but different collection agency, and for a different amount. The amount claimed from this second agency was about 1/4 of the original claim, around $1500. Back then, I paid as I went, meaning I would bring in a check for my portion of the tuition every month or so, so my portion of the tuition was always paid for, and I was only on the hook for what I owed the government, which I have since paid off. Even if I never paid the school anything, I can't see how the amount I owe would be anywhere near $1500.. . Do these guys have a claim against me if my student loans are paid off? Or is this an attempt by a shifty collection agency to get money out of me from a debt that is around 15 years old?. .
