Amy L. Houck joined Cooper Levenson as an associate in 2007 in the firm’s Education Law Practice Group, serving school boards and school officials on every aspect of Education Law. Amy is presently the lead attorney for numerous education law clients. She regularly lectures on a variety of school related issues including staff rights and responsibilities, student discipline, harassment, intimidation and bullying, special education matters and board ethics. Amy is also an Adjunct Professor for the Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership Graduate Program of the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey where she teaches School Law. She also is a faculty member for the Southern Regional Institute and Educational Technology Training Center at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey where she teaches the school law leadership program and harassment, intimidation and bullying seminars.
Amy understands the maze of legal issues impacting the education world and has experience working with the various types of schools and school districts in New Jersey. By providing our educators with continued support, training on new laws and requirements and developing policies and procedures together as a team, she equips school districts with effective, proactive measures to identify and resolve many potential school issues before they reach litigation. Amy is always available to provide prompt assistance to school administrators and board members, one of the most important keys to her success.
Before joining the firm, Amy worked at a small law firm in Cape May County where she specialized in zoning, planning and land use, as well as municipal law, construction, real estate and chancery practice. She served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Valerie H. Armstrong, Assignment Judge for Atlantic and Cape May Counties from 2002-2003. While clerking Amy had the opportunity to be trained as a small claims mediator and mediated cases on a monthly basis.
Amy is a graduate of the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey with a B.A. in Communications. While in college, Amy volunteered for the Holocaust Victim Assets Litigation. Amy graduated the University of Pittsburgh School of Law with a J.D. and a Certificate in Health Law. While in law school Amy interned for Magee Women’s Hospital in the legal and HIPPA compliance offices. Amy helped conduct seminars for employees and develop policies and procedures for compliance and investigative regulation for the hospital. Amy has also interned at the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.
Amy is an active member in many civic and charitable organizations. Amy was appointed to serve on the Atlantic County Advisory Commission on Women from May 2011-February 2014. Amy is also on the Board of Directors for Stop the Violence in Atlantic County a division of the United Way. Amy’s community service work also includes past coordinator for the Vincent J. Apruzzese Mock Trial Competition in Cape May County and previously serving as coach for the Hammonton High School Mock Trial Team. Amy has volunteered and provided pro bono work for area schools, education associations and other non-profit organizations.
Amy is a member of the Vincent S. Haneman American Inn of Court and the Atlantic and Cape May County Bar Association. Amy is admitted to practice in New Jersey and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.

well for starters if she is a minor, which it sounds like you are a couple of 10 year old little girls, then she will have to have her parents permission to change her middle name.. . if she is over 18 then just have her file papers with the county court house.. . In reality, there is no sense in changing or getting rid of a middle name, what is the point to that?? Just tell her to stop using it on legal documents or at the bank etc. In a lot of cases you can get the social security administration and then the DMV to drop it from their records with out a court order. Again she needs to be 18
