legal document - (law) a document that states some contractual relationship or grants some right.. . *legal instrument- official document, instrument. . *document papers, written document- writing that provides information (especially information of an official nature). . *derivative instrument, derivative - a financial instrument whose value is based on another security. . *negotiable instrument - an unconditional order or promise to pay an amount of money. . *passport - a document issued by a country to a citizen allowing that person to travel abroad and re-enter the home country. . *ship's papers - official papers which a ship is legally required to have

Most countries that change their names haven't been countries that long and they feel the new name better reflects the nature of the people who make up the country. When older countries, like Russia, undergo even massive change, as they did in the Revolution of 1917 or France in 1799, they keep their original name. They may make a small change to note the new structure of the country, like China becoming The People's Republic of China, but the basic name that describes the national character remains. In the case of Russia, it kept it's name and the Soviet Union was the name given to the larger union of nations that were under control of "Mother Russia".. . Bigger changes, like Burma becoming Myanmar, reflect that the new people in charge reject the former nation. That is unpatriotic to supporters of the former nation, as what they are forming is a new nation, so they don't want to be patriotic. But even these changes are rarely major, even if they appear so from the outside. In the case of Burma, the names Burma and Myanmar are both English pronunciations of slightly different dialects for the same word. Myanmar is closer to the more formal version of the Burmese name for the people who live there. Though since the name change was implemented by a tyrannical military government, it generally is not liked and the name Burma is typically used by supporters of democracy in that nation (sometimes government officials feel they have to use the name Myanmar to avoid an international incident).. . Other notable name changes, like changing the Ivory Coast to C?te d'Ivoire is just a change to the French words for "Ivory Coast", since the dominant language there is French.
