  • With heartfelt sadness and a profound sense of loss, Rossi, Hamerslough, Reischl & Chuck regrets to announce the passing of our dear friend and partner, Susan Reischl.

Susan began working with RHRC in 1989, was named a partner shortly thereafter, and enjoyed a successful legal career spanning 32 years in which she was respected and admired by clients, colleagues, co-workers, and the legal community. Susan's dedication to her clients, as well as her commitment to and expectation of excellence, set the standard for performance by attorneys and staff alike. Susan's exceptional research skills, incisive and cogent legal writing, and appellate expertise made her an invaluable and irreplaceable member of the RHRC team, leading to many notable legal triumphs. She practiced a personal work ethic of superior professionalism and loyalty that demanded attention to detail, enthusiasm for the law, and personal investment in providing the best service and legal product to her clients.

Susan loved her work and those with whom she worked. She made a point of spending time with others, often offering wise counsel, and enjoyed the companionship, friendship, and camaraderie of her "work family," which is how she viewed her coworkers in the office. Susan's determination and drive never failed her: she showed up to the office in the midst of serious health issues, teaching us all how to meet challenges with grace and dignity, how to cope with obstacles with the help of a sense of humor, and how to reach out to others with unselfish generosity. Her professionalism was complimented by her quiet devotion to many charitable organizations, her infectious laugh, her honesty, and her weaknesses for Lay's Potato Chips and jelly beans.

We miss our friend and partner greatly, but the legacy of her spirit, dignity, and commitment to excellence will continue at RHRC.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Susan in some way are welcome to donate to one of the following charities, all of which were important to Susan:

Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department (to be used for the creation, maintenance or preservation of bicycle trails in the County of Santa Clara); The Humane Society of Silicon Valley;Community Breast Health Project located in Palo Alto, California; and Sally and Don Lucas Artists in Residency Program at Montalvo in Saratoga

  • The law firm of Rossi, Hamerslough, Reischl & Chuck seeks to provide its clients with aggressive real estate solutions. RHRC specializes in commercial and residential real property and business litigation and in negotiating complex real estate transactions. The firm is known for its vigorous representation of buyers and sellers, real estate agents and brokers, title and escrow companies, commercial and residential developers, landowners, commercial landlords and tenants, contractors, and financial institutions.

RHRC is comprised of a group of the most talented, experienced attorneys in the industry. San Jose Magazine’s list of “Top Attorneys” in Silicon Valley repeatedly recognizes the firm’s team, and several of the attorneys were also recently selected as “Super Lawyers of Northern California” by San Francisco Magazine, which represents the top 5% of bar association members. RHRC has preserved its small, boutique feel in order to provide attentive personal service to its clients.

When a client’s needs require litigation, RHRC’s attorneys utilize the most efficient approach to obtain the best results, whether it be settlement negotiations, mediation, arbitration, or trial. Among them, the firm’s attorneys have tried hundreds of cases with notable success.

RHRC’s land use and transactional attorneys are regularly involved in the purchase, sale, and development of real property, including multi-million-dollar purchase transaction and lease negotiation and obtaining entitlements, zoning changes, and planning department approvals. Recent matters include the sale of a multinational agricultural business and a multi-phase 35-acre commercial development.

RHRC’s lawyers also serve both their clients and the real estate community through outside activities. Members of the firm frequently serve as mediators, arbitrators, and expert witnesses in commercial and residential real estate disputes and volunteer their time in the judge pro tem program at Santa Clara County Superior Court. One RHRC attorney has published a regular column, "Real Law," in the San Jose Mercury News for 10 years, and several of the firm’s attorneys are contributing columnists to the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal and its Q&A section. The attorneys frequently serve as lecturers and authors on real property issues for the Bar Association’s Continuing Education program, conduct regular seminars and lectures for real estate agents and brokers, and teach real property and contracts classes at local law schools and colleges. The firm’s attorneys advise real estate boards in Silicon Valley and serve on committees, helping draft purchase contracts and disclosure forms in use throughout California. One RHRC attorney serves on the Tax Assessor’s Appeals Board; another is one of the directors of the Housing Industry Foundation. Two attorneys serve on the Board of Directors for Baseball San Jose, working to bring major league baseball to the community.

The firm’s offices are in an ideal location, combining historical charm with a contemporary feel. Adjacent to the firm’s offices is the renovated Cook Mansion, one of The Alameda’s historic landmarks. Built in 1926, the California- and Spanish-style structure was once home to entrepreneur and sportsman Fred R. Cook and his family. Incorporating efforts of designers and architects who worked on Hearst Castle, it features tile roofs, wood-beamed ceilings, hardwood floors, and decorative tile. The firm is located in the addition, a project completed in accord with San Jose’s Historic Landmarks Commission’s strict guidelines and awarded San Jose Development Briefing’s “Outstanding Renovation Project of the Year” award in 1986.

I know that in certain situations a persons family gets to make decisions for them. This mostly applies after a person has died, or is in some way unable to make the decision for themselves, for example if they are unconscious at a hospital. It is usually the parents that get the primary say in these matters if the person involved is not married. I want to know how to remove my father from having any authority in these types of situations. I am over 18 and would like to do this, for good reasons. How would I go about doing so..

How do I write a thank you letter for the scholarship I was rewarded?

Who in their right mind boasts about what your Mummies and Daddies do to show off? That's playground stuff!. . That's my view anyhow!. . I think you might be reading a different newspaper to me! *hehe*

If you have a written contract for a property/ real estate and the buyer breaks it by not paying, can I enforce that contract? And get the property back since he didnt pay for it? The written contract was done in the County Office in front of a notary and lawyer(buyer's lawyer)..

I am about to put myself forward for a promotion at work and I need to write a cover letter. I have already got a CV but I am only 25 and I have never had to do this before. Can someone just outline the main points I need to talk about in my cover letter. Thanks.
