This question combines my two favorite things: keeping my name when I got married and genealogy.. . No matter what you do, you don't create a new family tree. Regardless of what your name is, your parents, grandparents, and other relatives remain connected to you in the same manner. I could change my name to Strawberry Shortcake, and my parents would still be my parents. My children would still be my children, too.. . My husband and I have different last names. I told him he could change his to mine if us having the same name was really that important to him. He opted not. Our children have different last names. We decided to go every other one - #1 has his, #2 has mine, and #3 has his. If we have another, it will have mine. If we have twins, they will have different last names.
