• Albert R. Abramson founded the firm in 1975. He was born in San Francisco and lived here all his life except for 2 1/2 years of service in the U.S. Marine Corp. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1951, receiving a B.A. degree with highest honors in economics and was inducted into Phi Beta Kapa. He graduated from Hastings College of Law in 1954, where he had been note Editor of the Law Review and was inducted in the Order of the Coif, a scholastic achievement honor society. He worked his way through Hastings as a law clerk and investigator for a firm specializing in representing plaintiffs in personal injury cases. This has been his field of practice ever since. He obtained his pilot's license in 1966 and embarked upon the sub-specialty of airplane crash litigation and was one of the pioneers in its development.

You file paperwork, a leadsheet and lyrics, along with a copy of your work to the US Copyright office (assuming your from US). That's the most firm way to copyright a work (ie. best legal standing to claim you own ownership of a song. Alternatively any time you publish something for the first time and claim copyright ownership you have copyright ownership. Someone who writes an aritcle for a magazine for example doesn't have to prove that they wrote an article first if they can prove the magazine came before all other copies. You could theoretically send your self a package sealed with security tape so if it was tampered with it could be proved, date all your materials you wish to copyright and put them in an envelope and mail them to yourself, sealed with the tape. This would have less legal standing than the US Copyright Office way, but would still beat out any other copyright claims than the US Copyright Office.. . Additionally, I would copyright an entire album of work, and not individual songs. It costs 35 dollars per copyright claim, if you do the album at once it's just 35, but songs would be more expensive. If you have a song that you think could be a top 40 hit or something, I'd individually copyright it cause that will afford it the best legal protection. But I've heard it's a waste if you're not really going to make very significant amounts of money.. . Lastly. You can sue people for stealing your work if they take a sample of your recording and use it, or if they cover it without paying you on a recording they make. You cannot prevent people from covering your songs. Once you write and publish a song everyone on earth is entitled to rerecord that song as long as they attribute you as the original author and pay you or your publisher a fixed statuatory amount. Record labels pay this for recorded music. Bars and clubs actually pay ASCAP and BMI a royalty for both the songs they play over the PA b/w bands and also an estimated amount of cover songs.. In fact most of the money made off copyrights is the revenue generated by people covering your songs. Take a song like Yesterday by the Beatles, it's been recorded over 3000 times by different artists. The Beatles get a cut off any money that all those other recordings make. So you don't want to prevent people from covering your work, you want to write a song that everyone else wants to do a cover of.

does my living will/advanced healthcare directive remain in effect regardless of location and/or citizenship, or do I need to write a new living will? Please note that my current living will includes the clause "This is the last iteration of this living will/advanced healthcare directive, and it overrides and any all documents signed by me at any date, past present, or future." Would this clause only apply in California to me as a US citizen, or does it apply anywhere in the world? I would of course want to have the same directives regardless of country/city/citizenship status/etc., so I want to be sure that I am following the proper protocols..
