  • Born and raised in New York, Mr. Widell received a bachelor of arts degree from the State University of New York at Albany in 1984.? Mr. Widell received his juris doctor degree, cum laude, from New York Law School in 1990, where he was the recipient of several academic awards, including the American Jurisprudence Award for Excellence in Trial Advocacy, the American Jurisprudence Award for Excellence in Federal Courts and the Federal System, and the New York State Trial Lawyers Association Sidney Tolmage Memorial Scholarship.? Mr. Widell was an editor of the New York Law School Journal of Human Rights, and interned for the Honorable Jacob Mishler of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.?Mr. Widell is the author or co-author of several articles concerning corporate governance and the federal securities laws, including "Sarbanes-Oxley Meets the Reform Act: Whistleblower Allegations," New York Law Journal, March 31, 2003; "Fiduciary Duties of Corporate Directors in a Financially Troubled Economy," Directorship (Vol. XXVII No. 7 February, 2002); "Looking at Directors' Duties in a Troubled Economy," New York Law Journal, February 2002; and "Securities Litigation: Joint and Several Liability and Contribution," printed in Securities Litigation 1994 (Practicing Law Institute Series, October 1994).? He recently wrote "The Diversity Hurdles Unincorporated Associations Face," New York Law Journal, September 2010. Mr. Widell has also been an adjunct professor of law at New York Law School.?
