Socialised health care also means doctors are less willing to provide unnecessary treatments or (especially) drugs as there are less kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies or private surgeons. There are also less procedures as people have to pay for the more elective surgeries whereas if your insurance company is paying you are more likely to go for it.. . You then talk about helping those less fortunate, including the elderly - these people have been paying into the system for many years and deserve (have paid for) the best treatment they can get. Should we pay the families of those who die young with no treatment a bonus?. . The whole point of socialised medicine is that we as a society are not willing to let the least fortunate of our populace suffer if we can help it. As an individual I cannot afford to help others, but as a part of society I can and morally I should. Surely we are judged based on how we treat the least of us. Should poor criminals be denied due process and a lawyer as that is expensive? Should poor people be denied police protection as they haven't paid taxes to pay for the police? If their house is on fire should we let it burn?. . "What about people that refuse to have a job, I mean if they aren't willing to pay into the system, then I don't need to pay for them, even if it's just penicillin.". . I assume you're American, that's not a very Jesus-like attitude is it? I am going to let you die because you refuse to get a job. If you're not American (or a Christian) then that's not a very sympathetic attitude is it? I won't spare the few dollars to give you antibiotics to save your life as you don't pay any taxes.
