Giving longer notice will not serve you well unless you are absolutely essential to your company's ongoing operation, because managers don't want others a) following your example or b) listening to you if you have job-related reasons for leaving. You should also be prepared for them to tell you that if you leave, you leave immediately, because that may be their policy (for reasons I stated above), or because they take it very personally when an employee rejects them by quitting. Each situation is a little different. . When you submit your resignation letter, be very polite and warm and tell them how much you've enjoyed working there. Would you be required to pay a commission?
