  • "I highly recommend Lucia Ramirez Levias to anyone who is involved in a family law case. I had a difficult, heartbreaking custody case and the support, professionalism and dedication I received from Lucia was unmatched. I truly felt she was there for me to answer my questions, support me and my concerns, educate me."~Cararaes, Seattle?

Lucia joined the firm in April, 2008, and comes with an extensive background in working with families and children around the Puget Sound. Family law is a natural fit for Lucia's professional and personal background. She was the youngest of five children in a family impacted by divorce. Her father was the first man in his home state to win full-custody of his children. Lucia knows first hand the effect that divorce can have on the lives of children and parents. She also recognizes that life transitions can be positive when supported by the guidance of a caring professional.

Before going to law school, Lucia worked as a youth development director at the YMCA of Greater Seattle. There, she developed cutting edge programs to serve the needs of teenagers and their families in the community. Many of the children in these programs suffered from low self-esteem, negative body image, and some came from violent or abusive homes. Lucia worked with both the families and the children with compassion in an effort to inspire hope for their future and to challenge them to reach their highest potential.

Lucia aspires to reach her client's goals by listening, analyzing, and advocating. She enjoys complex analysis and problem solving. She has experience as a litigator in criminal court, immigration court, and family court. Her legal analysis of complex issues has been included in amicus briefings to the Washington Supreme Court and in briefs to the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th District. She is a member of the Washington State Bar Association and the American Immigration Law Association.

Lucia is an active volunteer in the Seattle area. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Reel Grrls, an organization that empowers young women from diverse communities to realize their power, talent and influence through media production. She and her husband serve as volunteer facilitators for the Program for Early Parent Support (PEPS). She also volunteers for the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project providing free legal services to low-income immigrants.

When she's not working, you may run into Lucia at the Children's museum or the Zoo with her husband and toddler son. In addition to raising her son, she is also raising two teenage cats: Ginseng and Lola. Lucia speaks Spanish and travels regularly to her ancestral country, Peru.

  • With the uncertainty of the legal process of family law ahead of you, finding an attorney whose personality and philosophy matches yours is the key to a successful outcome for your case. To help you reach a decision, let me tell you a little more about myself, our legal team, and our approach to client service.

Facing divorce issues such as property division and child custody or support is extremely stressful. I understand that and pride myself on being approachable, easy-to-reach, and responsive. Attorneys Monica Kaup Cary, Lucia Ramirez Levias and I are committed to developing supportive relationships with our clients and helping them deal with the emotional difficulties often arising in family law. As a trial lawyer, I am also aggressive in the courtroom with over 20 years of experience.

Prior to becoming an attorney, I was a high-risk labor and delivery nurse at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, giving me experience in highly-charged situations.

Prior to joining the firm in 2004, my colleague Monica Kaup Cary volunteered with VISTA (the domestic peace corps), clerked for a family court judge in Portland, and worked as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Pierce County.

Prior to joining the firm in April, 2008, Lucia Ramirez Levias volunteered with AmeriCorps, summer clerked at MacDonald Hoague & Bayless in Seattle, and worked as an Associate Attorney at Pacific Law Firm in Seattle.

I always recommend that clients attempt to settle their family differences amicably. If possible, mediation is a very viable solution that works well for many families. If that is your choice, I will help you move through your divorce with as little disruption to yourself, your spouse, and children as possible.

Should you find yourself in a high-conflict divorce or child custody dispute, I have the skills and expertise to help you achieve a workable legal solution. As a trial lawyer, I practiced complex litigation for about ten years before changing to family law. Why the change? I prefer working with people, not insurance companies.

When choosing a family law attorney, you should know that not all lawyers are comfortable going to court, or even willing to do so. I do not shy away from high conflict situations. With years of solid courtroom experience behind me, I will take your case to trial if necessary. I have success litigating cases against very aggressive attorneys and will do so for you if that is what you find yourself up against.

Staying within your budget is important. We do our best to use your resources wisely by relying on a fine professional paralegal staff to gather preliminary documents and do routine research under our supervision. Using the Internet, fax, phone and email streamlines the process, allowing our face-to-face meetings to be personal, productive and pro-active while eliminating the need for costly additional meetings.

We invite you to look around our site and see if the chemistry is right. If you have further questions or want to arrange a confidential consultation, please give us a call. Our waterfront office is located on the north end of Lake Union in Seattle, Washington. We look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve the solutions you seek.

The estate tax exemption in 2011 is $5 million per person. Estate tax is imposed on the value of your estate to the extent it exceeds the then current exemption. Generally speaking, your taxable estate includes everything you own, including life insurance.. . There are many strategies to reduce your taxable estate. Some simple ones include: enjoy it (spend it), give it away - up to $13,000 per year/per person - and, if it appears you will have an estate tax liability, you can fund it (pay for it) with the death benefit of a life insurance policy owned in an Irrevocable Life Insurance Trust (ILIT).. . Note: Some gifts - life insurance, for example - will be included in your taxable estate if gifted within three years of death.. . Hope that answers your question and earns your Best Answer vote!

You mentioned that ALEC wants to privatize public education and crush unions. Public education is funded by taxpayer money, and it is where low-income and middle-income families have their children educated, compared to private schools for upper-income families. Labor unions are organized associations of workers, often in a trade or profession, formed to protect and further their rights and interests. . Judging from this, it sounds very much as though ALEC has the interests of big business in heart over the Average Joe.
