  • Sive, Paget & Riesel has been a leader in Environmental Law and Litigation in New York and elsewhere since the early 1960's. More than four decades ago, Sive, Paget & Riesel lawyers led the administrative and judicial proceedings following the landmark Storm King Mountain litigation in New York's Hudson River region. Our attorneys also led the successful fight to stop the Hudson River Expressway, which resulted in an opinion that is the first reported decision contained in the Environmental Law Institute’s Environmental Law Reporter. The Storm King Mountain disputes preceded the first Earth Day in 1970, the enactment of the National Environmental Policy Act and the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency.

A lot has changed since those early days, but Sive, Paget & Riesel continues to be an industry leader, assisting clients in the preparation of environmental assessments and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs) under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and New York State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA), working on Brownfield redevelopment projects and environmental permitting, and supporting corporate transactions with due diligence reviews and risk assessments. Most of the Firm’s attorneys are experienced litigators, prosecuting and defending Superfund cost recovery actions, oil spill cases and challenges to EISs and environmental reviews. We have also defended a number of complex toxic tort cases, which have resulted in a number of landmark court decisions in this area. We remain on the cutting edge, lecturing frequently on a variety of topics, including quickly evolving areas such as alternative energy, global warming and climate change. Our attorneys counsel our clients and keep them informed as to new laws and regulations, such as the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), are put into place as the New York region and our nation grapple with the complex array of issues relating to climate change and the potential environmental impacts from global warming.

A recognized leader in our field, SPR has been selected by two independent ranking agencies – Chambers and Partners, and Who’s Who Legal – as the leading firm for environmental law and litigation in New York.

We use our experience, insight and creativity to support a diverse array of clients facing a wide range of environmental issues such as:

Federal and State Superfund Litigation Development Permitting, Environmental Review and Judicial Review Corporate Transactional Due Diligence Environmental Insurance Oil Spills Compliance Counseling and Audits Hazardous Waste Cleanups and Brownfield Redevelopment Wetlands Regulatory Takings Litigation Civil and Criminal Investigations and Enforcement Litigation Global Warming and Climate Change Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution

Name Change - What needs to be updated?

I take care of a friend of mine who has paranoid schizophrenia. I buy her medications, make sure she eats, and pay her rent and food. Would she be better off in a guardianship situation with me, or with a medical power of attorney? I need to help her file for social security and get insurance through the state, but am not sure if I can do that without either, or simply with her consent. She is 33, and so am I. I already have a child and other responsibilities. I am willing to help her as much as I can, but I cannot do so to the detriment of my own health, which I have been close to doing. . Any answers are appreciated..

Does anyone know how to do a business letter format?

It depends - if your cover letter covers exactly the same information, then it isn't necessary. Most objective statements contain three parts: what job you want, why you should get it, and why you would benefit the company.. . Some resume writers see objective statements as old-fashioned or redundant, and this can often be the case. In a few instances, however, an objective statements can focus your resume and catch your potential employer?s eye.. . Consider adding an objective statement when:. . 1. you?re only asked for a resume. If your application does not include a cover letter and there are no references on your resume, an objective statement might help demonstrate your interest to an employer. Because objective statements are tailored specifically to the job, including one will signal that your resume is not a mass mailing but part of a thoughtful application.. . 2. you?ve held unrelated jobs in the past. If your resume details experiences in different fields than the one you?re applying for, it might leave your prospective employer wondering why you?re changing paths. An objective statement on your resume will show why you want the change ? and why you?ll succeed in a new environment.. . 3. you have little to no prior experience on your resume. Students writing a resume for internships or writing a resume for entry-level jobs may lack a work history that reflects their useful skills or employment goals. Writing an objective statement at the top of your resume will remind your reader of your goals and abilities, even if you haven?t proven them on the job yet..
