  • JANET RAY KALSONis a graduate of SUNY Binghamton (Harpur College) (1978) and Rutgers Law School (1984). She is a member of the New York and New Jersey bars.

Janet was a Reginald Heber Smith Fellow at Lehigh Valley Legal Services in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where she represented clients in the housing and family law areas. Thereafter she worked as a staff attorney at Brooklyn Legal Services Corporation A, representing Social Security disability claimants at administrative hearings and in Federal Court.

Janet worked for the Housing Litigation Bureau of the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development for a decade, where she sued landlords for violating the Housing Maintenance Code and Multiple Dwelling Law. Her trial work at the agency resulted in contempt findings, steep fines and jail sentences for recalcitrant landlords, as well as the correction of many violations.

Returning to Legal Services, Janet worked at MFY for five and one half years, representing tenants, SRO tenants and adult home residents in Housing Court, Supreme Court, at the Appellate Division and in DHCR proceedings. In this position, Janet litigated a number of illegal eviction cases as well as non-payments and holdovers, and served as counsel to tenant organizations.

At Himmelstein McConnell, Janet has successfully defended tenants in countless proceedings, including a fraud case in Supreme Court as well as non-primary residence, owner use, succession and breach of lease cases. She has also prosecuted HP proceedings, including many mold cases, as well as loft law claims. Recently, Janet obtained a contempt settlement at the Chelsea Hotel resulting in a 4.7 month 100% rent abatement, a 20% rent abatement until construction activities are completed, no MCIs, temporary relocation at another hotel with a $60 per day meal allowance while individual apartment improvements are made, and $100,000 in attorneys' fees. Janet also recently won a 12 day owner occupancy trial in which she established that the landlord's claim that he wanted her client's apartment for his daughter was just a ruse to evict a low-paying rent-stabilized tenant. Janet litigates in the Housing and Supreme Courts as well as at the Appellate Term, Appellate Division and DHCR.

In addition, Janet was Chair of the Civil Court Committee of the New York City Bar Association from September 2007 through August of 2010, and since September 2010 has been a member of the City Bar's Council on Judicial Administration. Janet has participated in post Hurricane Sandy legal training and has provided free legal advice to victims of the hurricane in the Rockaways.

lawyer Kalson, Janet Ray Reviews

Dear (name). . I just wanted to write you and let you know how much we love and support you and your fellow soldiers for what you are doing for our country. My name is (name) and my family is very proud of you for what you are doing for us.. . at this point you would identify your intentions whether that would be to be a pen pal, or if you want to send care packages ask them what kind of things they would appreciate receiving.. . When I was in Iraq I had a family who sent me letters every month, and every once in a while sent care packages with flavor pouches to mix with water. it was very kind of them.

how many sections did george washington's estate have????

I am doing a debate on Health Care Reform, primarily in America. It's based on two sides.. . I'm on the side which feels that the Health Care system should not change, which means the opposition feels it should change.. . I'm not looking for a report here, but what key points could the guys/girls who are for the change could use? I can't really think of anything.. . And what key questions should I bring up, in order to make them question their motives? Thanks..

I'm with the second answerer -- the sincerity and sentiment are admirable and correct, but the actual phrase has become a bit over-used [I actually rewrote it in my cover letter template now that I'm looking for a new job].. . I won't give you an exactly written phrase to use, but my suggestion is to revise the sentence and and substitute something like "I appreciate" for "thank you"
