Okay, maybe it doesn't need to be there but I only add them in to sound somewhat more friendly and approachable. I definitely dont think it warrants being totally patronised and 'being fined'. I've had emails from customers with x or :-) on the end and I think it's nice to be casual and friendly with people who you've been dealing with for a while, instead of being friendly on the phone and then sending them stuffy emails... how does everyone else manage their 'e-mail etiquette'?. Yeah you're right, it doesn't need to be there but it's not worth fining me, patronising me or threatening to sack me over.. . In the email that broke the camels back, so to speak, and started the whole argument was because I wrote 'Many thanks!' and apparantly that sounded desperate and unprofessional, but I only did it to make it sound more appreciative than just 'Many thanks.'. I can understand that its not necessary but I also think that the recipient wouldnt take any offense to it and so his reaction is more than over the top!.
