• Bob Schnur works most extensively on tax litigation (federal as well as state and local) and on tax planning involving non-profit organizations. Examples of litigated federal tax matters in the United States Tax Court include successfully representing a major producer of food products in a case involving the amortization of trademarks, and successfully representing a manufacturer in a LIFO inventory dispute. Examples of litigated state tax matters include successfully challenging the constitutionality of a Wisconsin occupation tax on railroads, obtaining a favorable Wisconsin Supreme Court decision in a test case brought by the savings and loan industry in connection with the calculation of bad debt reserves, and obtaining a favorable decision for a large utility in a case involving the Wisconsin tax treatment of "safe harbor leases." Mr. Schnur has substantial experience working with tax exempt organizations, including successfully representing a large organization in an exemption revocation proceeding initiated by the Internal Revenue Service, and working with a variety of organizations in connection with unrelated business income issues, complex corporate reorganizations, and private IRS ruling requests.

  Mr. Schnur has for many years taught advanced and basic tax law at the University of Wisconsin Law School and received the Stolper Award as the outstanding member of the adjunct faculty. He also served for six years as visiting Adjunct Professor of Tax Law at Cornell Law School. Mr. Schnur has lectured across the country on tax issues and has authored several books and articles on various tax matters
