If you're intention is to vacate by April 30 your landlord must have the notice no later than March 31 otherwise it is considered late. This is assuming you are required to give only one month's notice. Check this out very carefully! In Ontario for example, two months notice is required. If two months notice is required then handing it in now would be too late for the end of April and you would be responsible for May's rent as well.. . Registered mail would provide a receipt and often a way of tracking it. This provides proof.
