If you're intention is to vacate by April 30 your landlord must have the notice no later than March 31 otherwise it is considered late. This is assuming you are required to give only one month's notice. Check this out very carefully! In Ontario for example, two months notice is required. If two months notice is required then handing it in now would be too late for the end of April and you would be responsible for May's rent as well.. . Notices are most often hand delivered in which case as long as your landlord received it by March 31 you are okay. If you were to post it you would be wise to allow a few days posting time. Registered mail would provide a receipt and often a way of tracking it. This provides proof.
