OK guys, I am in a bit of a pickle. I got married in a civil ceremony last December to my husband, but we are having an official wedding in August 2014. So, I stupidly decided it would be a good time to change my name. But a lot of people don't know that I'm "married" yet, my husband is in Europe on business.... . is there a way to REVERSE the requested Social Security card due to my married surname now or did I just do something stupid? I don't want to have to change EVERYTHING now because that will make things complicated & I don't want to explain to people that we will be having an ACTUAL cereomny in August 2014.... . Thoughts? Help?.

well i hit the two most important places in one day, and right away (social security and the dmv). most places only need your marriage license to do the name change, but some places will actually want a copy of your new social sec. card or your new d/l.. . in addition to social security (which you will need to hit BEFORE the dmv) and dmv, there's a slew of other places your name will need to be changed... i had no idea how many people had my name!!. . like:. . banks. credit card companys. insurance (auto, life, health, etc...). professional licenses. your job. irs. ca state tax board. passport. voter registration (you do this at the dmv). bills.... . the social security and dmv are really the only places you need to show up in person, and like i said i did it in a day. other places will just be really easy to do like credit cards they'll do over the phone, the bank just needs to see your marriage license, etc. some places you may need to wait for your new d/l and ss card to come in, like your job/health insurance.. . if you get the ball rolling at ss and dmv before you leave for business, your new cards will be waiting for you when you get back. :) the smaller ones you can do at your leisure.. . congrats!!
