• Alva Wesley-Thomas grew up in a small town near Longview, Texas where people believed in hard work and family values. She attended Wiley College in Marshall, Texas and later transferred to Texas Southern University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in? 1972. My wife's mother has an investment account with a high street bank and we have a General Power of Attorney which, until recently, had allowed us to withdraw funds from that account to meet her nursing home fees. The bank now tells us this was a mistake and they will now only accept a Lasting Power of Attorney. Not only will this cost a lot of money but, until it is granted (some 4/5 months), we will have to pay the fees and we simply don't have the liquid assets to do so..
