I recently married and now need to go through social security to change my name. I know that through the DMV my middle name will be replaced by my maiden name. BUT how does it work with your social security? Will I keep my middle name and only change my last name? Or do I write it in like it will show on my drivers license?. . For example: My "born given name" is Jane Sally Doe and my new married last name is Smith. So for my new SS card application, do I write in Jane Doe Smith or Jane Sally Smith?? haha. Only way I can be clear I guess. Thanks!.

What do u need to take with u to get your social security card if u lost it?

In addition, your mother is also protected from private creditors trying to attach her social security check, because banks and other financial creditors are not allowed to garnish a beneficiary's social security check. However, if she owes money to the government, then they can go after a portion of her monthly check.. . Also, although you didn't ask about it, I think that it's important to mention that a standard (non-durable) Power of Attorney becomes null and void if the principal becomes incompetent. In contrast, a Durable Power of Attorney continues in force even if the principal becomes incompetent. So you may want to check to see which type of POA you have, to make sure that you and your brother will still be able to manage her financial affairs for her if she ever becomes incompetent.
