  • Campbell Kyle Proffitt LLP has been an integral part of the Hamilton County community since 1915. In that year, Yale educated Cassius M. Gentry and Michigan University graduate Frank S. Campbell opened the law firm of Campbell and Gentry, an unusual beginning since in those days it was not the norm for lawyers to be law school educated. Most became lawyers by reading law in the office of another lawyer. Since its inception, the firm's name has changed several times, but its reputation for honesty, fairness and competence remain unchanged. Platted by William Connor in 1823, Noblesville was a small, thriving community by 1915 with many retail outlets, but the community was primarily agricultural. The county, by 1915, had seen a significant increase in the value of farmland and the cost per acre had risen from almost nothing to $150.00 to $200.00 an acre.

Campbell Kyle Proffitt LLP has provided Hamilton County with several prosecuting attorneys and four judges of the circuit or superior courts, including two judges and one commissioner who still sit. Over the years, the firm has had a number of interesting clients and legal opportunities. Among the more interesting client matters handled by the firm were the appeal of D.C. Stephenson's conviction, the attempt to recover assets for United States Fidelity and Guarantee Company from John Dillinger, two different local school systems in the school desegregation case of Indianapolis, Indiana, the representation of the State of Indiana against Chubb Insurance Company, the receivership of United Underwriters National Insurance Company and the representation of the County Commissioners when they were put in jail for contempt of court by then Circuit Court Judge Edward New.

The firm has succeeded because of its reputation for honesty, fairness and competence. The March 2009 Indianapolis Monthly Magazine listed seven members of the firm as "Super Lawyers" or "Rising Stars," more than any other firm whose home base is Hamilton County. In addition, Campbell Kyle Proffitt LLP is the only firm based in Hamilton County with lawyers who have been selected to be fellows of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the only firm based in Hamilton County with a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and the only firm in the State of Indiana with a lawyer who is both a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. The firm has also produced two Presidents of the Indiana State Bar Association, a very unusual feat given the size of the firm. Campbell Kyle Proffitt LLP is the only firm whose home office is in Hamilton County with two lawyers listed in Woodward White's Best Lawyers in America.

The firm has always been active in Hamilton County with many presidents of various service clubs and Chambers of Commerce. Frank W. Campbell, now deceased, was named "citizen of the year" by the National Boys and Girls Club of America, and the Hamilton County Parks Department has named a bridge after partner Robert F. Campbell (deceased) in recognition of his volunteer work for its Parks Department.

Campbell Kyle Proffitt LLP has attorneys with the experience and ability to handle a wide array of legal problems. We have had lawyers appear before the trial courts of the State, the Indiana Court of Appeals, the Indiana Supreme Court, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. The connection between a client and his or her lawyer is personal and unique. We at Campbell Kyle Proffitt LLP seek to build that relationship based on trust, candid advice and an appreciation and respect for each client's special concerns.

We welcome your inquiries. If, for some reason, we do not feel qualified to undertake a particular matter, we are comfortable in making a referral for you.
