• James D. Harris, Jr. is an attorney with substantial experience negotiating and litigating negligence and product liability cases involving significant damage claims in Federal and State Courts at both the trial and appellate level. He has also been active in the fields of general tort law, motor carrier litigation, contract and construction disputes, and insurance litigation concerning bad faith, coverage questions, and general defense.

  Upon graduating from law school at the University of Alabama, Mr. Harris joined the firm of Harris and Harris in Montgomery, Alabama. He was admitted to practice in Alabama in 1967 and in Kentucky in 1983 when he began practice in Bowling Green. He was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States in 1971, and served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1970 to 1978.

  Mr. Harris is a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, serving as a commissioned officer with the 173rd Airborne Brigade in 1967-68. He retired as a Colonel in the Army Reserves in 1995. He is active in civic organizations to include service, present or past, on the Board of Directors of the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, Habitat for Humanity of Bowling Green/Warren County and The Salvation Army Advisory Board of Directors. Mr. Harris has been a member of the Defense Research Institute, the Transportation Lawyers Association, the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys, the American Bar Association, and the Bar Associations of Alabama and Kentucky. He has also served as President of the Bowling Green/Warren County Bar Association, and as a member of the Kentucky Continuing Legal Education Commission. He has been a member of the Civil Justice Reform Act Advisory Group for the United States District Court for the Western District of Kentucky and a member of the Board of Directors for the Western Kentucky Federal County Defender, Inc. Mr. Harris was elected in 2006 to serve as a member of the Board of Governors for the Kentucky Bar Association and, by that Board, to serve on the Judicial Council in 2008. He was recognized by his peers as one of the Kentucky Super Lawyers 2007 and subsequent years and has served by appointment as a Special Justice for the Supreme Court of Kentucky.

My husband's parents agreed to use their name for financing a home 4 1/2 years ago. They didn't put forth any monies as to the down payment or anything pertaining to this home since. We pay the mortgage online through my husband's and my personal checking account and have done so since 2003 when the home was purchased. Our credit was less than perfect and we knew we would pay an arm and a leg for a 79,000 home. We are, however, on the deed with them. My mother-in-law passed away 2 mths ago and I have since faxed a copy of death certificate to the mortgage company. What happens after my father-in-law passes away?.
