Beyond her practice in family court, she also successfully defended the Department of Human Services in administrative hearings for child abuse expungement before the Bureau of Hearings and Appeals.

  Ms. Vela-Vick is passionate about helping families facing difficult times. She was a student attorney in the University of Michigan Law School’s Child Advocacy Law Clinic. She has previously worked at the Louisiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the Women’s Law Project (Philadelphia), Women Against Abuse Legal Center (Philadelphia), United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Houston, and the Meyer Center for Developmental Pediatrics (Houston). For four years, she coordinated a mentoring program for at-risk children. Throughout law school, she volunteered as an elementary school tutor. She has most recently become involved as a volunteer judge with Baton Rouge’s Teen Court.

  As a relative newcomer to Baton Rouge, Ms. Vela-Vick is excited about becoming actively involved in the Louisiana legal community. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Baton Rouge Bar Association, the Baton Rouge Association of Women Attorneys, the American Association for Justice, and the Louisiana Association for Justice. She served as a volunteer judge for the 2013 National Trial Competition’s regional rounds, the 2013 Region III High School Mock Trial Competition, and the LSU Law Flory competition. She was formerly a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Philadelphia Bar Association, and the Nicholas A. Cipriani Family Law Chapter of the American Inns of Court.

  Monica Vela-Vick was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. She is a graduate of Rice University (B.A., 2004) and the University of Michigan Law School (J.D., 2007), where she served on the Editorial Board of the Michigan Journal of Gender and Law and as Chair of the Latino Law Students Association (LLSA). She is a former law clerk to the Honorable Donna Woelpper of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. During her tenure as a law clerk in the family division, she routinely sat as a dependency master (hearing officer), issuing proposed findings of fact and conclusions of law for judicial approval.

i got my social security card when i was working in campus as an international student 10 yrs ago. . i went back to my home country after gratuated and now i'm back in the states and got married with a US citizen. i was holding the travelling visa when i entered the states 2 months ago(the wedding was a sudden plan with my bf!), so is my social security number still valid now? i need it to apply for the green card.. besides, i need to change the order of my name on the card coz they got my first name and middle name reversed 10 yrs ago. will social security office edit the name for me without doubting my status(married while travelling)?.

A very sick friends house was auctioned at 5pm yesterday without any warning to the people trying to help him & could have stopped this but thought they were - he immediately listed the house and has proof of money due to him. He has police & medical reports, but much the Power of Attorney took. They tell me this legal & his fault - I can't accept that - why have POA or credit protection & why are not after her.
