  • Personal: ?Born and raised in La Grange, Texas, Laura M. "Laurie" Baker is a native Texan who found herself in North Carolina in 2004 to attend law school.

Education:?Laurie?is member of the 2002 graduating class of Emory University where she?received?her?Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science, with a minor in Sociology. Laurie attended law school at Campbell University's Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law and graduated in 2007. While in law school, Laurie quickly took a leadership role, by being elected as a student representative in the Student Bar Association, a Justice on the Honor Court, and Dean ("president") of the Delta Theta Phi Chapter at Campbell. In addition to excelling in leadership, Laurie also displayed early promise as a litigator while in law school. Laurie, like Luke, was invited in her second year of law school to be a member of one of Campbell's mock trial teams, an honor typically reserved exclusively for third year law students. Upon graduation, Laurie was inducted into the prestigious Order of Barristers for her service to her?alma mater and her having displayed excellence in the art of trial advocacy. While in law school Laurie also was asked to join one of Campbell's moot court teams and represented the school at the regional competition. Laurie was also an active member of the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity as well as being Dean for 2 years.

Professional: Prior to pursuing a career in law and after finishing her undergraduate degree, Laurie obtained her paralegal certificate from the University of North Texas and worked for 1 year as a legal project assistant at Fulbright & Jaworski, LLP in Austin, Texas. Following law school and after being licensed as an attorney, Laurie proudly served as an associate attorney at the law offices of Hartsell & Williams, P.A. in Concord, North Carolina where her skills as a trial lawyer and litigator were honed and finely tuned. Laurie left that practice amicably to join Luke at The Baker Law Firm, P.A. in July 2009.

Memberships: Laurie is member/licensee of the North Carolina State Bar and Judicial District 19A Bar. She is also an active member of the North Carolina Bar Association, North Carolina Advocates for Justice (formerly North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers), American Bar Association, and American Association for Justice (formerly American Trial Lawyers Association).

    Innovative and Realistic Solutions

We are dedicated to helping our clients find effective resolutions to their legal problems. We recognize that few people have the resources to get caught up in a lengthy legal battle. Many of our clients tell us that they simply seek to be treated fairly and to receive just compensation for their claims and injuries. We pride ourselves on listening carefully to our clients' concerns and helping them find effective, realistic, and long-term solutions to best meet their goals.

We're Looking Out for Your Interests

You hire an attorney to take action. You hire an attorney to give you honest legal advice and to be an advocate for you in negotiations or in court. At?Baker Billick, P.A., we take a holistic, "big picture" approach to the practice of law. Our goal is to zealously and honorably represent the interests of our clients within the bounds of the law. Sometimes, the best short-term solution can have negative long-term consequences. Our philosophy in every case is to represent the entire person, taking into account not only the legal challenges facing a client, but also all relevant ethical, financial, emotional and spiritual considerations.

Although we can never promise a particular result in a specific case, we can promise to devote our skills to reach the most favorable outcome for your circumstances and help you through a difficult time.

An Experienced Team with Local Roots

The Bakers metat Campbell University School of Law in Raleigh, North Carolina, where they tried cases together in mock court and fell in love with the law and each other. "Luke and Laura" became partners in marriage, and recently became law partners as well. Although they concentrate in different areas of the law, their clients benefit from their "two heads are better than one" approach to each other's cases.

Lucas was born and raised in small-town North Carolina (Sylva), and brings those values to his legal practice. He handles family law, personal injury and wrongful death, and business and civil litigation. Laura's special focus is criminal defense and family law. After honing their skills as associate attorneys at area law firms, Lucas and Laura established The Baker Law Firm in Concord in March 2009.

We Won't Leave You in the Dark

A common complaint about lawyers is lack of communication after they take the case. At?Baker Billick, P.A., we understand that these are tense and uncertain times for you and your family. We take the time to listen to your story and address your worries. We explain your rights and options and what is likely to happen at each stage, and keep you informed and involved during the process. You can expect us to return your phone calls or e-mails?and provide honest answers when we do.

    About Our Legal Fees

Our legal fees are reasonable and competitive:

Initial consultations are always free of charge in personal injury cases. In family law, criminal defense and other cases, we charge a reasonable fee for the initial consultation.

In personal injury cases, we take cases on a contingency fee basis. This means we charge no legal fees unless we recover compensation, in which case we collect a percentage of your recovery (established up front) plus any expenses advanced. In divorce cases, we also handle certain property division cases on contingency.

Attorney fees are case-specific. We can't typically give a quote over the phone, but by the end of your initial consultation we will be to provide a firm quote or reasonable estimate of the cost of representation.

lawyer Laura M. Baker - Concord, NC Reviews

I'm looking for the words they use to use back then in the kings day. If anyone knows the answer to this then that would be great.. . Thanks,. Jon W.

Say a son is the executor of his mother's estate for 18 years. Once his mother dies the house goes to the mother's 2 daughters but not the son. Once that house has been put in the daughter's name after the mother passes away, is the executor of the estate no longer responsible for the selling of that house? In other words, are the 2 daughters on their own when it comes to selling the house? Does the executor (because he accepted the executor fee... in the thousands of dollars), have a responsibility to make sure the selling of that house goes smoothly or is he out of the picture? After all, the two daughters are not working together to get the house cleaned so they can sell it. Is the executor free of any responsibility of getting things going among the daughters?.

First professional interview for children's librarian job... help!?

Every scholarship is offered by a different organization, so how can there be just one format that works for every possible essay?. . If the application instructions do not specify a layout, you should submit an essay that conforms to professional letter writing form. Double spacing is a good idea - essays are almost always double spaced or one-and-a-half spaced. Double spacing promotes readability.. . When you type an essay, it's good form to use an extra space between paragraphs.
