    "FIGHT ON"

    I had a friend whose driver's license got stolen. The thief looked a bit like him- age, weight, etc. The thief used my friend's ID when he got busted for a crime. My friend traveled often, and he always got stopped. When he complained, the reply was, "Well, that bad guy used your ID once. If we take you out of the system, we might miss him." If you think about that, it makes a lot of sense. The only thing that helped, even just a little, was that he frequently arrived at the same place, so he got to know the various inspectors who would pull him over. That inter-personal relationship stuff helped. Occasionally he'd arrive at an airport that he didn't use, and then he'd get the "you're a criminal" treatment.

    You do have a contract, but some employers try to mislead employees by calling it by another name.. . UK employment law recognises bona fide 'contracts', but they don't need to be signed. Working according to the terms of the contract and accepting payment for that work automatically affirms the existence and validity of the contract.. . Some employers attempt to 'weaken' the employer/employee relationship by issuing a different document, but in fact... it makes absolutely no difference. It is sometimes called a 'letter of employment', sometimes a 'statement of employment'... or more traditionally a 'statement of particulars'. In reality, they all amount to the same thing. YOU HAVE A CONTRACT. (excuse the capitals... just stressing the point.). . Since you have been employed for a period exceeding 12 months... you have acquired full employment rights under UK employment law and cannot be dismissed unlawfully, unfairly or in any prejudicial manner. The employer must find a legal means of dismissing or face a legal challenge.. . Assuming you have made the mistake of not joining a trade union... go to the ACAS website, get their helpline number and call them. They will give accurate and impartial advice on what you can do.. . I would just further add that part time workers are protected, and MUST be treated in exactly the same way as full time workers.. . Good luck.

    I didn't make a change of name in the application. That is, I wanted to keep my name. But still the day of the interview they asked me if I wanted to change my name. I just said no. They ask you to make sure the information on the application is right and ask you if you still want to change your name. You can make the corrections there. It doesn't become official until you pass the exam and they approve you.
