My name was spelled incorrectly on my SSC. I didn't notice this problem, however, until I tried joining the Military. I had to go to the SSC office and get it fixed which kinda sucked. Other than that i have no idea what other problems you may encounter. I'm pretty sure any government job will require it to be correct, so if you're planning on getting a job like that than i suggest fixing it.

Forget these people saying "just pay it!" There are much better ways to handle this. And your credit doesn't go up overnight after you make payment, it takes some time, often 6 months to a year, and you obviously want to wait as short a time as possible.. . You can dispute the three bad items- you don't dispute "everything" because, I would hope, there's some good stuff on there too. Just dispute the bad ones, 2 or 3 at a time to see if it works - it works more often than you may think. Oh, and dispute by mail, with delivery confirmation - they only have 30 days to process your stuff and get back to you (may take 35 before you get the updated report) so you want to make them do as much of the work as possible - if you do it online, you're doing their work for 'em.. . If some/all the disputes fail, use the "PAY FOR DELETE" template I've put at the bottom of the answer- send it to the creditors - what it states is that you'll pay some amount, be it 50, 75, or 100% of the amount, but they have to pull all history of the debt from your credit report. Don't reword the template, some things in there are very important (such as stating that you ARE NOT acknowledging it as your debt).. . If you "just pay", it will take time for your credit to go up - if you manage to successfully dispute the bad ones off, or negotiate a 'pay for delete', then it'll jump up the second they fall off, b/c they'll disappear as if they'd never been there. After you've tried disputing it away, AND pay for deleting it, THEN consider "just paying it" if none of that has worked, b/c the outcome of "just paying it" is really the worst one available..
