Maybe it's just a phase they're going through. But, you have to keep in mind that even though you might love the name, your child may not. If your child is being bullied at school because of his/her name, or he/she just hates it so much that they become depressed over it, then yes it's possible they want to change it. If this is the case, why not let them change it? If it's what makes them happy, then isn't that more important than a stupid name?. My aunt was going to change her sex and therefore her name too and my grandmother let her because she wanted what was best for my aunt and wanted her to be happy.. Don't you?. Just talk to your kid about why he goes by a different name in school and if he wants to change his name. Don't be selfish even though you love the name, it's still your child you know.
