I want to change my last name because when I was born my mother still had my 2 brother's dad last name and I automatically got it when my father wasn't there to sign the birth certificate. I want to change my name to my mother's maiden name to honor my grandfather. I just read somewhere that because I'm not getting married, the court has to decide if changing my name is for a just reason. I think it is, I've carried this last name for 23 years and it isn't mine. When I get married I plan on hyphenating my last name with my spouses. So I was wondering if this was a just enough reason for a name change? Do I have to show proof of that their dad isn't my father and proof of my mother's madien name and such things?.
