  • Mark Algorri was born and raised in the Los Angeles area. In 1976, Mark graduated from UCLA, and in 1979, from the University of San Fernando Valley College of Law, where he received his J.D. degree.

Before law school, Mark formed a music management business in Westwood during the 1970's where he managed rock and roll bands, including Van Halen. He also co - produced their first demo recording.

Following law school, Mark joined with Louis DeWitt's Century City based criminal defense trial firm where he tried his first of many criminal jury trials just several months after becoming a lawyer.

Ultimately, Mark and his firm, now DeWitt Algorri & Algorri, focused their trial practice on catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases, including motor vehicle, construction, train and most other type of accidents, defective products such as motor vehicles, tools, and consumer products, as well as insurance bad faith claims.

Consequently, Mark has handled hundreds of criminal, negligence, malpractice and complex product liability cases to a successful conclusion, including over 60 jury verdicts, receiving numerous six and seven figure settlements and verdicts. His victories include a $25.1 million dollar gross verdict in a motorcycle vs. vehicle trial in the Los Angeles Superior Court, a $4.75 million dollar settlement after liability verdict in a defective highway case against Cal Trans, a $10 million dollar insurance bad faith settlement against a national insurance carrier and a $5.25 million dollar toxic contamination settlement, among numerous others. Many of Mark's cases have been against major corporations and insurance companies, including Ford Motor Co, General Motors, Toyota and Cooper Tire Company, just to name a few.

Over ten years ago, Mark was featured on 60 Minutes with Ed Bradley, where he took the lead in exposing catastrophic car seat back failures that were killing and maiming vehicle occupants in low speed accidents. The piece confirmed that car makers knew of the problem, yet refused to correct it, and further revealed that the car makers consequently created 'junk science' to justify the defects during litigation. That case and others focused attention on the need for more stringent automotive safety standards, some that are now finally being addressed.

Mark has an A.V. rating form Martindale-Hubbell and is a member of Consumer Attorneys of Los Angeles, Consumer Attorneys of California, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Academy of Catastrophic Injury Attorneys, as well as the Million Dollar Advocates Forum which is recognized as one of the most prestigious groups of trial lawyers in the United States in which fewer than 1% of U.S. lawyers are members. He is also an Associate of the American Board of Trial Advocates, an invitation only peer recognized organization. He participates in other local, statewide and national trial and consumer lawyer associations and other professional organizations that track product defects.

The majority of Mark's cases are referred by other lawyers and law firms, a true testament to his reputation and trial experience.

In February 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 Mark was selected as a Southern California Super Lawyer.

I would like to change my last name to my former one (before this marriage and I'm wondering what is involved. Is it expensive? How do I go about doing it?. I am over 18. I have been married twice. I would like take back my first married name as my four children have that name, and I had it longer than I did my maiden name. Is it difficult and expensive to do that since I didn't do it at the time of the divorce. Anyone know?.
