No, they are just that irrevocable. Any arrangements cannot be altered, amended or terminated even by the principal. These are usually set up for trusts, life estates and financial transfers. I'm not sure under what other circumstances someone would want to use these. Unless the power of attorney has been made irrevocable (by its own terms or by some legal principle), the granter may revoke the power of attorney by telling the attorney-in-fact it is revoked. . Irrevocable power of attorneys are usually prepared for specific things such as a trust estate which obviously doesn't begin until after the person passes. It cannot be changed. I guess what I'm trying to say is that once the specific task is completed then there's no need for the power of attorney anymore. But again,, it's not revocable. It's also used in stock transfers and corporate decisions, therefore in order for you to ensure the principals directives are carried out and maintained the power of attorney must stay in affect to protect whatever was asked of the agent. Even after death, that power of attorney must remain in effect in order to see that the decedent's wishes are not only carried out but stay that way. some powers are to do something and once done that's it, an irrevocable power of attorney needs to stay in effect without end. Bottom line is if the power of attorney stays in effect as long as needed. If you could give me some more details about what's it's for I could be more specific and also give you examples of obstacles that may arise and options for dealing with them. I hope this is a little clearer. Without knowing the reason for it it's hard to give to a more concrete answer..

My first choice would be law, especially since some people may feel power hungry and attorneys are pretty aggressive. I work in an accounting field and I can definitely vote for that one too because of some of the activity I have witnessed in the office.
