  • Jason Xinyu Li is a member of the firm, resident in Shanghai, China. Mr. Li obtained his LL B and LL M degrees from Wuhan University Law School in 1990 and 1993, respectively. He worked as a corporate counsel in China before going to the United States in 1995. Mr. Li studied at Tulane University Law School and obtained a LL M degree in Admiralty in 1997, and was admitted to practice law in the State of New York in 1998.

    Educated in both China and the United States, Mr. Li has a thorough understanding of the difference between the different legal systems. Before relocating to Shanghai, he worked as a customs lawyer in Los Angeles since 1998 with this law firm. With this unique background, Mr. Li has a wide range of experience in handling Sino - U.S. trade and legal matters and assisting clients with different cultural backgrounds.

    Mr. Li has extensive experience handling complex cross-border customs, international trade, and IPR projects for clients ranging from U.S. importers and their agents to foreign exporters and manufacturers. His practice focuses on customs and international trade issues, including tariff classification, valuation, quota and visa issues, country of origin marking and labeling laws, customs IPR protection, trade compliance, customs seizure, forfeiture and penalty cases, and import requirements administered by other federal agencies (e.g., FDA, CPSC, and USDA). The products involved range from seafood, fresh produce, medical devices, consumer electronics, computer parts, software, to shoes, garments and other textile products.

    Mr. Li is admitted to the United States Court of International Trade, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. Court for the Ninth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the State of New York. He is a member of the Chinese International Law Society, Chinese Maritime Law Association, Maritime Law Association of the United States, Customs and International Trade Bar Association and New York State Bar Association.

    Mr. Li is a frequent speaker on customs and trade issues at various local trade forums, and he is routinely interviewed and consulted by Chinese and U.S. media organizations on customs and U.S.-China textile trade issues.
