Your question has been reproduced below to preserve the original fact pattern to which this answer applies:. . Q: As an alternate Power of Attorney, do you need to sign docuements to be responsible? My husbands fater was power of attorney for my husband's grandmother. Unfortunately my husbands father passed away recently. Now my husbands mother is stating the my husband is now the power of attorney for his grandmother because he was stated at the alternate. My husband never signed any papers and wants nothing to do with this responsibility. Can someone just put anyone's name on a piece of paper and make them responsible? thanks for any help.. . A: The quick answer to your question is "Nobody can be made responsible for someone else just because they have been named as an agent in a power of attorney document.". . You generally do not become "responsible" for someone when you are named in a Power of Attorney (POA). Here's an excerpt from an Illinois Short Form Power of Attorney that describes the "duty" one has under a POA:. . "The agent shall be under no duty to exercise the powers granted by the agency or to assume control of or responsibility for any of the principal's property, care or affairs, regardless of the principal's physical or mental condition." (755 ILCS 45/2-7). . This provision is contained in most form power of attorney documents. The POA gives someone the power to act on behalf of someone else (only within the limits of the power of attorney and where they are responsible for the acts they take on behalf of the Principal), but it does not obligate them to act.. . life/funeral insurance?

I'm looking at starting up a retail fashion business. I know nothing about business plans!.

How the cash flow of the business can be controlled and the consequences of not doing this?

Where can I download a free Durable Power of Attorney for California?. . It needs to be fast, easy, free, and legal. I'm sure they're out there.. . It must be for California.. . Here is a related question: I see on some forms like these there are two spots for signatures. One area is for two witnesses. The other is for a notary.. . I'm assuming that if a notary does it, then the two signatures are NOT required. Am I right?. . Also, in order for this to be valid, does it have to be filed with the County Recorder?. . Would you recommend getting multiple Durable Power of Attorney forms done at the same time, or will one be sufficient?. . Many thanks in advance !!. I have had two spam replies so far. They have been reported..
