  • Born and raised in the Chicago area, my path to Colorado is one that has allowed me to benefit from life experiences in and out of the legal profession. After graduating high school, I enlisted in the military and served aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln and the USS Enterprise in the Navy. Serving during the first Gulf War, I was an electrician and a member of a firefighting team. While out at sea, I chose to enroll in college courses taught during our ship's tour of the Pacific Ocean and Persian Gulf. This experience sparked an interest in U.S. History and I decided to attend college after I was Honorably Discharged.

After helping my family open and manage one of our family restaurants, I enrolled in and began to excel at Speech Communications at the University of Illinois. These studies, combined with a desire to assist others, prompted me to continue my education and become an attorney. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree, I chose to attend law school at the Chicago-Kent College of Law for its excellent trial advocacy program and their reputation for producing successful trial attorneys. While in law school, I became a certified Mediator for the Cook County Circuit Court, and mediated highly contested cases between Landlords and Tenants. I was also a law clerk at a preeminent employment law litigation firm, where I assisted attorneys in preparing for State and Federal Court trials. These experiences taught me the two most important skills a family law attorney must have: the patience and skill of a successful negotiator, and the preparation and work ethic required to be a successful trial attorney.

After receiving my law degree, I became a bar exam tutor for the Minorities in Legal Education Program in Chicago. This program provides assistance for students studying for the Illinois Bar Exam. I also began my legal career as an associate in a well-established family law firm in the Chicago area. At this firm, I was mentored by some of the best attorneys I have ever known. This experience not only taught me all aspects of family law, it gave me a deeper understanding of the emotions and turmoil involved in the breaking of the family unit. It gave me an appreciation for those going through the process, which allowed me to guide them through the process as quickly and painlessly as possible.

A few years later, I had the opportunity to relocate to Phoenix, Arizona to become a felony prosecutor with the Maricopa County Attorney's Office. I was responsible for the prosecution of drug offenders, drug dealers, car thieves and other felony offenders. This office honed my trial skills, taught me successful strategies in preparing for trial, and understanding the complexities of trying cases before a jury.

By chance, an alumnus from my law school contacted me to start a family law firm. With my background as a family law attorney and the experience of dozens of jury and bench trials under my belt, I was able to handle all aspects of managing a family law firm. This position helped elevate the way I represent family law clients that I continue to use to this day: Communicate with clients on a one-on-one basis and decrypt the "legalese" of the divorce process; Keep clients informed about their cases at all times; Develop and present multiple case strategies for clients to choose from; and explain best and worst case scenarios so clients know what to expect. I have received positive feedback from former clients on my style of providing straight-forward, down to earth advice, with an emphasis on informed, responsive customer service. Finally, when a client desires to negotiate an agreement rather than litigate my experience as a Mediator and family law attorney benefits my clients in minimizing cost, time and the stress of a trial. However, when parties cannot reach agreement and litigation is necessary, my experience as a family law litigator and former felony prosecutor works to the benefit of my client.

From Arizona, I made the decision to move to Fort Collins, Colorado. This decision did not come lightly as the sunny, warm weather of January Arizona mornings were fond memories. Although it may seem cliché, the decision was made for the love of a girl who is now my wife.? It is a decision made without regret. Since my move to Denver, I have fallen in love with the state of Colorado and am happy to call it home. I stay very active with Rotary International, and the Fort Collins Chamber of Commerce, and can also be found cheering on my favorite sports teams (or lamenting their losses), at the gym, exploring the dining experiences Colorado has to offer, or spending time discovering this beautiful state with my wife and her son and our young daughter.
