  • In almost 25 years at Jones Day, Jeff Ubersax has won major trial and appellate victories for the Firm's clients across the country in a variety of individual and class actions, including product liability and toxic tort cases as well as commercial disputes involving contract, antitrust, fraud, and securities claims.

Most recently, Jeff has become involved in disputes concerning the removal of gas and oil from Ohio's Utica or Marcellus Shale. He is currently defending mineral rights owners against claims by surface owners who have sued to enjoin the removal of natural gas by horizontal drilling and "fracking."

Jeff has extensive experience in commercial arbitrations. He represented North America's largest iron ore producer in arbitrations concerning long-term supply contracts with U.S. and Canadian steel makers and won three awards from panels of the American Arbitration Association (AAA) involving eight- and nine-figure claims about the amount and price of ore to be sold under complex contracts. Jeff is also a member of the AAA's Roster of Neutrals.

Jeff has acted as national coordinating counsel for the sole fully integrated U.S. producer of beryllium products, managing all aspects of the company's product liability and toxic tort litigation in 19 states and taking the lead in key courtroom appearances. He has a long record of success in these matters, from defense verdicts to significant wins in state supreme courts and federal courts of appeals on class certification and medical monitoring issues. A Colorado verdict was recognized in The National Law Journal's "Top 20 Defense Verdicts" of the year for 2001.

How can I write a tactful letter?

The structure I use for my cover letters are simple. I don't fluff and embellish. I write three concise and meaningful paragraphs. While I have one base model from which all my cover letters derive, each one is hand tailored to suit each company.. . The first paragraph introduces myself and explains what position I want and why.. . The second paragraph explains my concrete skills that makes me suitable for the job. For instance, I don't describe myself as being creative or mindful or a hard worker. Proper examples include the ability to type 90 wpm, C++ certified, or educated with whatever degree.. . The final paragraph is a snappy closer in which you can include some of your natural virtues such as hard working or goal oriented.. . I wrote a great one based off of "how to write a cover letter" on WikiHow. Go look it up, it's fantastic, easy to understand, and easy to do! Good luck!
