I've been at my present job for two years and a few months. When I interviewed and accepted the position, it was to support two doctors, with one of them wanting to start a special ongoing database project. Several months into the job, the manager added medical transcription, but provided no training. Luckily, because the database required typing in handwritten medical notes, I knew most of the words and how they were spelled. It took me a long time to do, so I couldn't work on the database.. . After a few months, we found another way to handle the transcription and I *thought* I could catch up on the database, but in December we fired a doctor, and the manager decided to reduce the number of admins, so I had another doctor added. An academically active one who travels a lot. He requires more attention than my original two. I knew it was supposed to be temporary, so I've been doing the best I can. Still can't get to the database. (Of course, being on Y!A doesn't help. You don't need to say it.)

Depends on the job you are applying for. If they request one, then you must. If it is an entry level job with a 'store application' to fill out, probably not. Sometimes a cover letter lets you expand on your talents a bit more than a stuffy resume. It can be a good thing to do. As I said, it depends on the formality of the job you are applying for.

It is so frustrating for those who are not breaking the law because of those who think it is their right to steal who we are.. . Thanks again!.

Irrespective of any legal requirement I would advise you do write a letter.
