Internship application letter!?

Blood clotting is one area, but you really want to ask about antibody/antigen reactions which is different.. . The Rh factor was discovered in Rhesus monkeys. Thus the origin of Rh. You either have a chemical on your red blood cell membranes (Rh+) or you don't (Rh-). You aren't going to form an antibody against Rh- cells since there is nothing to provide a template for.. . If an Rh- woman on first pregnancy is carrying an Rh+ fetus, then at birth some of those Rh+ cells goes through the umbilical cord into the mother's bloodstream. She will then develop a population of anti-Rh+ antibody producing cells. It's the second pregnancy that is at risk as the antibodies will attack the developing baby's Rh+ blood cells (if indeed, the 2nd baby is Rh+). That's why women who are Rh- are given Rhogam shots after the birth of their Rh+ baby (or a spontaneous abortion where the fetus's Rh factor is unknown). The Rhogam destroys Rh+ cells before the mother's system kicks in.. . So it's not, probably, the clotting you are asking about but the incompatability of blood in terms of antibody production.
