Do not pay this at all. They have NO RIGHT to take your child. That alone would make me want to walk away from the debt, it's a completely disgusting tactic. If you had that on tape, you could sue for harassment and threatening the welfare of your child.. . There is a huge ammount of medical bills that are defaulted on. You're not alone and this isn't unusual. You can also send the debt collector a cease and dissist letter. Google a template or ask a lawyer for one and they will be required to stop contacting you.. . When a debt is defaulted upon, the company or debt collector has 7 years to collect it or forfeit any right to it. The debt is also removed after 7 years from your report. The reason you don't need to pay is because this information will stay on your report regardless, so there is no incentive to pay.. . If you do want to pay this, DO NOT PAY until you get a full agreement in writing. You want time to make the payments. Get the time. You want to have the negative information removed. Attempt to do this by getting a letter from them that says if you pay you all negative information will be removed. When you contact them start with the following phrase "I am going to speakwith you regarding a debt, i am recording the conversation for accuracy. Any threats will be recorded and put into letters of complaint and if necessary used in a court of law." record the call with a simple tape recorder or a cell phone and write down anything you feel is threatening. If he says something like repossess your baby you have grounds to sue for harassment for up to $5000 every time he says it. It is one thing to attempt to collect a debt, it is a completely different thing to threaten your family.. . I had something similar happen. I got sick, went to a doctor, had insurance and the doctor sent out things for tests which were not covered. I got a bill for 5,000. This effected my credit for a while until I appealed the decision and proved that I wasn't liable for th debt as I never approved outside testing. You don't have the grounds for am court appeal, but you can easily just stiff them on the bill as I did for a couple years.

I have no US birth certificate (obviously), no US passport (though I have a valid passport from my country of origin), and no green card, but I do have a work permit. Can I use the work permit as my means of identification? . Since I am an adult, do I still need to get a driver's permit before I can get a driver's license? Someone told me I don't need a permit first if I'm an adult, but she's from another state that might have different rules. . I would appreciate it if everyone who answers also links government websites that they got the answers from as sources.. Thank you for reading..
