At the tournament remember that you only have to fight each person in your division one at a time. It can be a little intimidating for a person with no experience at competing to be facing a division of ten or twenty other individuals. You can work on that aspect by fighting multiple times in the studio against different opponents having matches that are timed just like what they will be at the tournament which is another thing I would do with my students who would compete in sport karate fighting.. . Make sure you get good rest the night before the tournament and eat pasta or something else loaded with carbs. The morning of the tournament I would hit Mickey D and get hotcakes and an orange juice. That way I would have plenty of carbs for energy. Avoid candy and soda as it can mess with sugar levels in your blood and make you feel like you have less energy. Wear and keep your tennis shoes on at the tournament when not getting ready to spare. That will keep your legs and feet more rested and a fresh set of legs is better for sparring when the time comes. Avoid warming up excessively or several times before your division starts and save your energy
