My police department is having a meeting with a labor union lawyer in reference to possibly initiating a union. As far as I can tell, the city that I work for doesn't invest any time or energy in our healthcare system, our pay raises, and anything for that matter. So as of right now, its pretty much every man for himself. A union doesn't sound like a bad idea at this point. What would be some good questions to a a union lawyer in an attempt to discover the pros and cons of a union? This is coming from a guy with no experience with unions, so as much detail as possible would be helpful. Thank you in advance..

Going back to your maiden name doesn't do anything other than change your name. You might as well change your first name too, makes no difference. You are still legally responsible when it comes to whatever it is your husband does while you are not there. If he wracks up bills, as long as you are not legally separated, you still will owe the money. Changing your last name back to your maiden name doesn't do anything legal other than change your name. It doesn't get you out of the responsibilities with your husband.. . You can fill out all the paperwork yourself, go to any library and take in a few quarters and make photo copies straight from the book they have there. Then go home and fill it out, then have your husband sign it and then you go file it. Anywhere between 200 to 500 dollars.
