My wife suffers from a bipolar disorder. I admitted her to a Texas mental health clinic due to a manic episode. She has drastically improved. However, her mother has now become envolved. Her family has always been against our marriage. I admitted her, I support and love her, and I take care of her. Along with our church...we have a great support group. Suddenly her mother is in the picture. I fear that she is going to attempt to get Power of Attorney or something by stating she is unable to make her own decisions. Staff has taken her side it seems though I am there by my wifes side daily (she has shown twice). They gossip about me, speak of my wifes condition and progress. Yesterday, her social work had a conversation with me (which was private). Apparently, her mother was standing by listening in plain view of the social worker. The social worker allowed this to happen. Suddenly, my mother-in-law bursts in calling me a liar and upsetting my wife. Shouldn't be a HIPAA violation? Not to mention that my wife has no 'release of information' for her mother hence they shouldn't be discussing ANYthing with her. I simply want her moved to a new facility now. She was to be released this Friday but now it's being pushed back. And I fear this is due to her mother stalling for time to take legal actions. I have signed temporary guardianship of our children to a great Christian family just in case. I am unsure what my rights are to get my wife released or to prevent her mother from doing something terrible. I am going to have my wife sign a power of attorney form for myself just in case.. . Any advice?.
