Of course, marriage/divorce are the most common ways to change your name. In a divorce, you are given the chance to go back to a maiden name or other previous name from another marriage. A complete name change is not allowed (changing your name from Helena Graham back to the maiden name of Helena Smith is allowed but in this case, Helena Graham cannot change her name to Suzette LaFleur).. . Here in the US, you can change your name to anything you want PROVIDED you are not doing so for an illegal reason or the name is just outlandish. Yes, a judge has to approve but s/he has great latitude.
