I'd like to apply to a hospital, GP, medical supplier or lab for work experience this summer, but I'm not very good at writing letters. Could you read the one below then comment and suggest improvements?. --------------------------------------?. Dear Sir or Madam,. . My name is Amber ------- and I am fifteen years old

Where can I find (online) samples of cover/business letters?

The school I'm studying at is a government school. It doesn't produce its own tests and buys activity sheets from a trusted publishing company. Our teacher asked us to let our parents write an allowance letter saying that they allow the buying of the exam papers, otherwise, she would be dictating to us the questions, which we find very hard to do.

any comments for DaVinci?

As the parent of a child with autism and founding member of a large support and advocacy group, I have been asked questions like this many times in the last several days. Having a special-needs child almost automatically makes you a member of a special "club" whether you like it or not. You almost have an automatic understanding of many things the other parent goes through. With that being said, I do not feel that celebrity and/or very wealthy families have to deal with the same things upper-, middle-, and socio-ecomonically disadvantaged families do. I also believe socio-economically disadvantaged families must deal with issues that middle and upper-class families don't have to deal with and I believe families of severely-disabled children must deal with much more than higher-functioning disabled children.. . Now to directly answer your questions:. 1) Because of her economic and political status, Sarah Palin can hire and appoint many people to support her child with DS. For example, instead of researching the laws and figuring out how to write certain letters and strategizing for the next IEP meeting, she has the financial means to have the best attorneys do this for her. Instead of spending hours of her own time, I am sure attorneys will keep her child's files organized, advocate for necessary services, and write all the letters and make necessary phone calls and emails. I am sure she can have doctors and other professionals meet her on her time rather than making appointments, taking off work, sitting in a waiting room, etc. I have been a stay-at-home mom with a special-needs child and I loved it. My child's file has never been so organized and I felt I was able to give my son's education the attention it needed. Now that I have returned to work (to pay for attorney's fees to fight against school district antics), my child's file is in disarray and I feel a bit out of touch with my son's needs. So can Sarah Palin do the job? I'm sure she can because she will have much more support than the typical family.. . 2) I absolutely think Sarah Palin will not see special-needs issues the way I do. She is wealthy and has political clout. People will listen to her. For example, once I told a local politician what was going on in our school district and brought proof and his response was, "I'm sure they have a good reason." I showed him the reason in the proof where the school district admitted special needs kids are a "burden" and a "subgroup" of the general population. He couldn't have cared less. I am quite sure if the Governor of a state much less the VP of the US brought up the same issues, Ms. Palin would get an entirely different response. Sarah Palin will never have to make a decision whether to private-pay for more speech therapy or send her neuro-typical child to camp...she can do both. She will never have to decide if she should give up her home or her child's therapy. She will never be told things like, "Well, it's not like he's going to be a rocket scientist" or spoken to rudely in an IEP meeting. Not a chance in H, E, double hockey sticks.. . As a grass-roots organization, I receive hundreds of stories all over the country about our broken special-ed system. I also see what issues larger nationwide support groups are supporting and it saddens me that the foundation of special ed is still not being addressed. If Sarah Palin is truly interested in special-needs issues, she should hold town-hall meetings across the country, have a staff that actually reads emails of local issues rather than an automated message reply system, and fully fund the federal law called IDEA.. . I hope I've answered your questions within your requested framework. I have no idea who I am going to vote for yet, but I hope we as a country make the right choice, whatever that may be!
