The simple subject is something, because the subject is always a pronoun/noun.

I changed my last name shortly after my divorce. I had to publish my intent to change my name in a newspaper of "general circulation" which notifies anybody and everybody of my intent. There are companies who scour public notices looking for that sort of thing and put it in a data base that they in turn sell to collection agencies, credit card companies, etc. I also (under oath) had to swear and affirm I was not changing my name to avoid any debts or creditors. If you go through the legal process to change your name (which you should if for no other reason to avoid issues with your social security number later) it will be difficult to slip it past a creditor for very long. You can perhaps change the name on your card from "Richard" to "Rick" or something like that, but that would be about it.
