    Hi,. Debt collectors have to abide by the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collections Practices Act) including if the debt was a foreclosure. The key is that this is actually a collection agency, and not the holder of the mortgage.. . One of the provisions of the FDCPA is that debt collectors MUST cease contacting you by phone if asked not to call. Cease and Desist letters are what you send to legally bind them to that provision. If they fail to comply, you can sue them for $1000 per violation.. . The first site below offers a kit that shows you how to go about stopping debt collectors and collector calls, and it comes with a cease and desist template letter you can just fill in with the contact info of the collection agency and send out.
