------------------------------------. . Always remember to GET TO THE POINT! Recruiters and HR people are screening a lot of candidates and don't have time to listen to your life story.. . The introduction paragraph should be something catchy like:. . "With responsibilities and deadlines that won?t wait, why spend valuable time interviewing unqualified candidates?". . After that, get down to business. Summarize your qualifications in the body paragraph. Check out the job ad and look for key works like "multi-tasking", "customer service" or other phrases that are job related and include them in the cover letter. Be sure to say what YOU can do for THEM. An example:. . "As you?ll see on the enclosed resume, I am proficient in a variety of word processing programs as well as stenography. I am experienced in handling general office duties and answering phones cordially and courteously.. . What my resume does not reveal is my professional demeanor and appearance. In a business environment, these qualities are of the utmost importance in dealing with clients as well as co-workers. In me, you?ll discover a reliable, detail-oriented and extremely hard-working associate

If you play an instrument and create music, you are already a musician. But if there was a template that guaranteed musical success, all of the millions of people who share your dream would be following it and everyone would be a rock star.. . The music industry isn't big on taking risks, so the only way to generate record label interest is to prove you can attract an audience. That means you'll have to perform regularly in public and develop a substantial and growing fan base, since that's evidence you can sell music. The most brilliant musician in the world stands no chance of getting signed if he/she can't draw big crowds. But a horrible artist who can pack bars in four or five different music markets will have record labels clamoring to sign him/her. The exception to the rule is teen idols who will only enjoy careers for a year or two, tops. They're selected not for being talented, but rather because they have a look or attitude that can effortlessly be marketed toward kids. But once a teen idol's audience grows up and develops some level of sophistication, the teen idol pretty much vanishes into the whatever-happened-to category.. . A lot of people recommend posting videos of yourself on YouTube or sending recordings of yourself to record labels, but those things are a total waste of time. Music industry people don't suffer from any shortage of talent, so why would they spend time searching YouTube for random people to transform into stars? Record labels have A&R people whose job is to monitor music scenes all over the world and report back about artists who are drawing crowds. So the only way to prove you're the real deal is to get out there and perform. To do that you'll need at least an hour of original music, musical accompaniment, and time to build a fan base. And as for sending CDs to record labels, those wind up unopened in dumpsters because labels receive thousands of them every week. Anyone with a modicum of musical talent can record a passable CD, but that doesn't mean he/she will be able to sell records. So unless you've got a history that proves you can attract crowds, record labels won't be interested.. . Music is like any other career field in that you'll have to start at the bottom and prove yourself to advance. The dues-paying process is important because it weeds out the wannabes (everyone with a guitar) from those who are serious about creating music. Keep writing, form a band, and start booking shows. If you're able to develop a big fan base, the record labels will come to you. That's why there are often bidding wars for the same bands -- because all the labels are using the same criteria to determine who should be signed.
