My husband went through this a few years ago (before we were married). Go to your local courthouse to the clerks office. They should be able to get you the proper paperwork. My husband had to go to the local State Police Post to get fingerprinted and they did a background check on him. Once that was cleared, he had a court date set in front of a Judge where the Judge asked him why he wanted to change his last name and the Judge granted it. He was also able to get his name changed on his birth certificate for another fee. Theres a fee for the paperwork to be filed at the court, to get fingerprinted/background check, and then to get the birth cert changed. However, I do not know how this will all work as a minor. If you are her only legal guardian, you shouldn't have a problem. I dont think they'll do a background check on her but I'm not 100% sure. I would just suggest calling your local courthouse clerks office or visiting their office. They should be able to give you more detailed info as far as minors go. Good luck! (congrats on getting a good man that takes care of your daughter even though he may not be her birth father!). . One more thing, we had to run the name change in the local newspaper too giving anyone ample time to dispute the name change request. But I think they have to have a viable explanation for wanting to fight it. The Judge told my husband as long as anyone isn't doing it for legal reasons (like trying to get out of some illegal stuff) they typically grant the request.

So I'm 17 right now, in my senior year of high school. I have an idea for a 'business' where basically I would be a food delivery service. High, drunk, disabled, or lazy people, or people who don't have means of transportation, would call and tell me what they want and, if necessary, where to get it. I would take my motorcycle (easier to get around, uses much less gas) and retrieve the food (keeping the receipt). They would pay based on the price of the food, how far I traveled (just to cover gas money), and how long it took me. I'm thinking of maybe having a set labor fee below 30 mins, but after that the longer it takes the more you pay (assuming it's because I had to do a lot of running around. People will not be charged for time because of traffic or my own fault). At first I wasn't considering making this an official thing but I don't want to get a huge fine for running an illegal business. So, how would I go about making it an official business? Should I just do it unofficially? I would be 18 by the time any of this would happen.. . Thanks for any answers or suggestions. Forgot to mention, one of the reasons I considered making it official is because I could use a phone to charge credit..

What does REM mean on home owners property?

Good luck and welcome to the working world. There is so much excitement being your own person and earning your own way in the world. The freedom, the independence, the power :) Sure it's just part time but it's the beginning. I'm very excited for you. Always remember: A) Do your best, always, B) If you have difficulties at work and you can openly discuss them with your manager then do so. It is better to fix potential problems before they become problems. C) If you don't like your job and want to quit, but you want to have a job, find another job before quitting your current job. D) If the time comes you decide to quit, then give notice (usually 2 weeks) of your intent to quit and give an honest but maybe not completely honest reason and be diplomatic. If you are quitting because the job sucks, you might choose a more diplomatic approach such as "I am quitting because I feel this job is not helping me develop skills I will need in the work-world or for my career." If this is a simple job like waitress the manager may chuckle or scoff at your reason but don't worry about it. Obviously a waitress job is often temporary for many young people so managers don't expect to keep employees for many years.. . Good Luck

Um, you didn't specify what you need to know!. . In the US, a patient who is capable of making decisions (now there's a tricky legal concept!) is able to accept or refuse ANY medical care.. . In the absence of such ability, the choices of a proxy, previously designated by the patient, will be followed. After proxies and family have been eliminated, I'm not positive, but it seems that the medical community would make decisions by committee, unless someone objected, in which case, a judge would.. . Says a lot about the value of an Advance Care Directive. Do you have one? (No one in my family goes to the hospital for even minor reasons, without looking theirs over and making any changes they feel are necessary. "Got a toothbrush? Slippers? Health care proxy?). .
