Will you answer my carbon-14 dating question?

Can another lawyer be trusted?

So, if people are in a long term homosexual relationship, and they do not make each other their Power of Attorney from carelessness, and one of them gets severely injured and decisions regarding their healthcare/ treatment need to be made, who decides whether to respect the partners relationship, or to just go ahead and call the family? The doctors? Similarly, if they are constantly in the hospital, making sure their loved one is going to be okay, are doctors going to disclose relevant information about their partner's health status to the partner, or are they just gonna keep their mouths shut?.
