• Catherine Andreycak joined the firm as a partner in 1998, after serving as counsel to the New York City firm of Patterson, Belknap, Webb & Tyler LLP. Ms. Andreycak concentrates her practice in the areas of transactional real estate and finance. Ms. Andreycak has extensive experience representing clients in all types of transactions, including complex conveyancing and leasing, and construction and permanent financing. She has represented developers, hotel owners, major financial institutions, governmental agencies and cultural institutions in the purchase and sale of commercial properties and the structuring of commercial condominiums, as well as in the leasing of office and industrial space. Ms. Andreycak has also represented individuals and entities in the negotiation of design and construction agreements for residences, office space, industrial facilities and major cultural exhibition spaces, cooperatives and condominium developments.

  Ms. Andreycak has advised many not-for-profit organizations, including foundations, museums, a historic preservation organization and a major wildlife conservation organization, both in the negotiation of leases and purchase agreements and in such areas as the financing of community development projects, the provisions of housing for curators, the design and construction of exhibition spaces (including obtaining government funds for such construction) and the sale and negotiation of preservation covenants with respect to historic properties. In the area of financing, she has represented many commercial lenders and savings institutions in both construction and permanent loans and in connection with the refinancing and restructuring of existing loans. In the area of affordable housing, she has represented both a financial institution and a consortium of lenders in New York City, providing construction and permanent financing for low and moderate income families, often in participation with New York City and New York State governmental entities. You are up against many highly experienced candidates, even for the bare bones jobs. Grown adults are taking several part-time jobs instead of one full time position since jobs ARE so scarce and they still have families to feed, bills to pay, a roof to keep over the head and so on. Figure in, too, the older people, the retirees who are not going to get a Social-Security increase this year, and there's even more competition for the very kinds of jobs that would be perfect for the entry-level worker. The seniors have a tough position, since they can earn only a small amount before the government takes away benefits... yet the government won't give these seniors a cost of living increase. The seniors are going to need these jobs-- perhaps more than a 16-year-old kid who is still living at home and going to school, truthfully.. . It's a very, very tough market out there and even highly skilled and degreed professionals are experiencing protracted periods of unemployment. Some have been out for over a year or more, and these are experienced workers. Thus, the less-experienced are surely going to have a very hard time of it.. . Hang in there, but know that you really have a tough row to hoe. But the good news is that there are a few things that you can do to put yourself a step ahead of other young people like yourself... the others who are also just getting started. Here are a few things to try:. . 1. You obviously don't have a work resume' like someone who's been working for many years. So what do you have? You can make a similar "history", called a 'Curriculum Vitae' (or CV) that lists your high points. You can include your education so far, your favorite classes (instead of your degree), your grade point average, any community or school activities (like Scouts, church, sports, etc.)... ESPECIALLY any activities where you have a leadership role. If you do odd jobs on a regular basis for a family member, a neighbor, or someone like that-- include that person as either "work experience" or as a personal reference. Absolutely be sure to include any volunteer work that you do as "Work experience".
