I am a recent college graduate and have been applying to many jobs in my field. Most of the job descriptions ask the applicant to send a cover letter and resume via e-mail. I typically include the cover letter as an attachment because I think it looks more formal and "letter-like" (and also so it is formatted in the same style as my resume). In the body of the e-mail, I'll simply put something like, "In response to your advertisement on XYZ website for the ABC position, please see my attached cover letter and resume." However, my friend believes that cover letters should be included in the body of the e-mail, not as an attachment, because the employer is more likely to read them if he/she doesn't have to open something. Due to the economy, many of my prospective employers have mentioned that they have received 200+ applications for a single position. I'm beginning to wonder if my friend is right by including the cover letter directly in the body of the e-mail, so I'm more likely to get their attention. I hate to sacrifice formality, though. Any thoughts?.

I think that would definitely involve storing some information on the server side, specifically the dates and times already taken, either in a database or flat text file, so that the user could get immediate feedback on whether the spot is available or not. You would need to set up an HTML form (could be a conventional form, or linked images, etc) of some sort that would send information (POST or GET method) to another script that would handle the comparison with the existing entries. Then the result would be sent back to the user for them to see.. . You would need to look into programming languages like Perl, or PHP, or general CGI programming, as well as how to do reading and writing from/to files/databases.

very few civilised democratic English-speaking countries impose Emglish as an official language - and that includes Great Britain which, like the US, has no official language.. (4) History has taught that in countries where a system of linguistic apartheid is practised, social unrest or even civil war will frequently follow
