Dave Hanson is a partner, Chair of the firm's Health Care Practice Group and a member of the firm's Business Practice Group. Since joining Michael Best & Friedrich LLP in 1981, Mr. Hanson has been actively engaged in a practice that emphasizes regulated industries, including health care, insurance, public utilities and financial services. He has extensive regulatory experience with state and federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Trade Commission, Department of Health and Human Services, the Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and the Wisconsin Public Service Commission.
He has represented health care clients in antitrust, corporate, transactional and regulatory issues. Mr. Hanson's health care practice has involved organizing faculty practice plans, health maintenance organizations, limited service health organizations, insurance companies, joint ventures, PPOs and IPAs. Mr. Hanson has managed a large number of major transactions and policy initiatives over the past ten years for both for-profit and non-profit clients, bringing diverse practice areas of the firm together to achieve the clients' objectives. In the public utility regulatory area, Mr. Hanson has been involved in both telecommunications and energy issues. He appears regularly before the Wisconsin Public Commission.
Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Hanson was Assistant Attorney General for the State of Wisconsin-Madison from 1968-1971; Assistant Chancellor, Chief Legal Counsel, University of Wisconsin - Madison, 1971-1976 and Deputy Attorney General, State of Wisconsin, 1976-1981. While Deputy Attorney General, he had line supervision authority for the Wisconsin Department of Justice Attorneys involved in all aspects of Wisconsin State Government.
