You can't change your name until you have the certified marriage license the minister signs on your wedding day. He signs the license, you mail it in, and 4-6 weeks later you get the certified copy you can use to change your name all the various places you need to change it.. . You get your marriage license at a local county courthouse. You don't go to SS for it.. . Once I had the certified marriage certificate, I went in person at the Social Security office and they just asked me, "what name did you want?" There was no fee. I went to the DMV a couple days later.. . It isn't a problem for taxes. You're filing your 2010 return as a single adult with your maiden name. When it comes time to file your 2011 taxes, that's when you need to have your name stuff sorted out by.. . I've never heard of getting your birth certificate altered. I'd call the social security office to confirm. You can always have two middle names. I've had friends do that. So you'd be Suzy Ann Jones Smith legally. When signing your name or in other circumstances you can just use Suzy Jones Smith.. . Good luck and don't stress!

My husband and I are looking to buy our first house, I am doing most of the work though. I know that the first step is getting approved for a mortgage. I was wondering what they look at to determine how much you can be approved for, and how long this whole process might take. . If anyone has any tips or any info. on how to save the most money or ways to make looking for a first house easier then I would love to know.. Thanks.
